Our History
A History of Purpose
The St. Marys Area Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in northwestern Pennsylvania of the Appalachian Region. Founded on June 26th, 1985, the EDC was formed by a group of area business leaders with a goal to promote economic growth and development within and beyond the St. Marys area. The founders brought with them a knowledge of manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and a pride for their community that can still be felt in our organization today.
The EDC has helped 80 businesses and counting with $10+ million in funding and even more businesses through collaborative efforts with other organizations that serve our region.
In 2025 the EDC created the Community and Economic Development Center (CEDC) of Elk and Cameron Counties, with RISE (Rural Initiatives for a Stronger Economy). This is a realization of our founders’ mission to accomplish a broader mission while serving a larger area.

The EDC Service Area
Although the EDC is located in St. Marys, PA, we serve Elk & Cameron County. Across the two counties, the EDC supports 19 municipalities including 14 townships, 4 boroughs, and one city. Our service area’s population is approximately 35,000 residents across 1200 square miles.
